SourceSwap is a static website with no user accounts, no login, and no interest in building a profile of you. This page explains exactly what data is collected, why, and how you can opt out of anything you don't want.
Short version
- No accounts, no login, no personal profile.
- Contact and submission forms store what you type — nothing more.
- Analytics use privacy-focused, cookie-less tooling that doesn't track individuals.
- Ads and affiliate links may set cookies through their own networks — disclosed below.
- Your email address is used to reply to you, and nothing else.
What we collect
Contact form submissions
When you use the contact form, the following is stored: your name (if provided), your email address, the topic you selected, the message body, and a timestamp. No IP address. No browser fingerprint. No cross-site identifier.
Tool submissions
When you use the tool submission form, the same pattern applies: tool name, repository URL, what it replaces, your email address, optional notes, and a timestamp.
Server logs
The site is served through Cloudflare. Cloudflare maintains standard infrastructure logs for security and abuse prevention. These are retained by Cloudflare per their own policy and are not accessible to SourceSwap beyond aggregated traffic stats.
What we don't collect
- No account information (there are no accounts).
- No payment information (nothing on the site requires payment).
- No location data beyond what Cloudflare derives from your IP for regional routing.
Analytics
SourceSwap uses privacy-focused analytics to understand which pages get read and where the site is growing. The tools in use are open-source and configured to not use cookies, not track individual visitors, and not collect personal data.
Tools that may be used:
- Plausible Analytics — cookie-less, GDPR-compliant, no personal data.
- Umami — self-hosted, no cookies, no tracking of individuals.
- Cloudflare Web Analytics — aggregated, no cookies, no fingerprinting.
What analytics see: aggregate page views, referring sites, approximate country of origin (from IP, discarded after aggregation), device type, and browser version. None of it is tied to an individual. None of it is sold or shared.
Advertising & affiliate links
SourceSwap may display advertising and use affiliate links to help cover the cost of running the site. Editorial coverage is not influenced by either — see theEditorial Policy for the full commitment.
Display advertising
Ads are served through an established advertising network — currently planned:Google AdSense or an equivalent provider. Ad networks may set their own cookies to measure ad performance or personalize the ads you see. These cookies areset by the ad network, not by SourceSwap, and their use is governed by the network's own privacy policy.
Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet. You can opt out of personalized advertising by visitingGoogle Ads Settings. You can also opt out of third-party vendor cookies for personalized advertising ataboutads.info.
Affiliate links
Some outbound links — particularly to hosting providers, VPS services, or paid tiers of tools with a managed cloud option — may include an affiliate identifier. If you click through and sign up, the site may receive a small commission at no extra cost to you.
Affiliate links never appear inside the directory, in comparison tables, or in "top pick" sections. Where they're used, they're disclosed on the page. Clicking an affiliate link does not give the destination site any additional information beyond what a normal outbound click would.
If you use an ad blocker
The site works normally. Blockers don't break any feature on SourceSwap. Analytics won't count your visit, and ads won't display, but nothing on the site depends on either of them.
Third parties
SourceSwap relies on a small number of service providers to operate. The following describes what each one does and what data passes through it.
| Provider | Purpose | Data shared |
|---|---|---|
| Cloudflare | Hosting, CDN, form submission storage, bot protection | Request logs; what you type into forms; browser signals for spam prevention |
| Analytics provider | Aggregate traffic measurement | Page view, referrer, country, device — no cookies, no personal data |
| Ad network (when live) | Advertising | Governed by the network's own privacy policy |
| Affiliate partners (when live) | Commission on referred signups | Standard referral identifier only |
Retention
| Data type | Retention |
|---|---|
| Contact form messages | Deleted within 90 days of the conversation ending |
| Tool submissions | Deleted within 12 months if not acted on |
| Cloudflare server logs | Retained by Cloudflare per their published policy |
| Analytics data | Aggregate only; retained by provider per their policy |
| Advertising cookies | Set and retained by the ad network, per their policy |
Your rights
If you're in the EU, UK, California, or another jurisdiction with data protection laws, you have the right to:
- Ask what personal data SourceSwap holds about you.
- Request deletion of any message or submission you've sent.
- Object to processing of your data.
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Since the only personal data SourceSwap stores is what you submit through a form, exercising these rights is simple: send a message through the contact form identifying the submission and asking for it to be deleted. It will be removed.
For advertising and analytics cookies set by third parties, you'll need to exercise your rights with those providers directly — see the links in the advertising section above.
Children
SourceSwap isn't directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in jurisdictions where that applies). No data is knowingly collected from children. If a child has submitted a form and you'd like it removed, contact the site and it will be deleted.
Changes
If this policy changes — particularly when analytics or advertising go live — the "Last updated" date at the top of this page will change and the version number will be incremented. There are no plans to introduce invasive tracking, sell data, or share personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.
If you have questions, use the contact form.
